Biography

Kwok-Leung Cheung is Professor of Breast Surgery and Medical Education, and Deputy Head of Education and Director of The BMBS Medicine Programmes at the University of Nottingham. He qualified and trained in Hong Kong, was appointed as Consultant Breast Surgeon, Nottingham University Hospitals in 2001, and is now an Honorary Consultant Breast Surgeon at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. Professor Cheung has clinical and research interests in breast cancer and geriatric oncology. He has served many roles in the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) where he is currently the Present-Elect and its UK National Representative. He received SIOG’s National Representative of the Year award in 2015. Furthermore, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA), of the Breast Cancer Guidelines Committee of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and of the Surgical Specialty Board in General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Professor Cheung pioneered the Symposium on Primary Breast Cancer in Older Women in the UK, which has now become a biennial event, hosted by the University under the auspices of SIOG.
Professor Cheung has contributed specifically in one of the work packages in the Innovative collaboration for Inter-specialty cancer training across Europe (INTERACT-EUROPE) and as a Councillor of the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE). Professor Cheung also leads a research project investigating the disparity of breast reconstruction in the older population across Europe.
